Breaking News – Ogiermann Joins Volga-Dnepr

Ulrich Ogiermann has become Senior Vice President for Operations of the Russian Volga-Dnepr Group and Deputy General Director for CargoLogic Management. The former Cargolux CEO and cargo
chief of Qatar Airways brings a wealth of experience to his future job to implement a coherent strategy for the individual member airlines of the V-D Group.

From temporary to permanent
Uli Ogiermann’s nomination does not come as major surprise after taking on the role as advisor to Volga-Dnepr last April to set up an AOC in Germany for the group (we reported in our issue of 13
April). At that time, he told CargoForwarder Global that his consultancy activities were only of temporary nature, ending when the AOC is granted by the German regulator.
The AOC is still pending, and it is not known if Ogiermann is still pursuing this project at full steam. But if so, if will constitute only a smaller part of his commitment after officially
joining the V-D Group.
Mr. Ogiermann will be responsible for the implementation of Volga-Dnepr’s international cargo airlines group strategy, which is aimed at realizing the synergistic effects of strategic
partnerships between airlines to guarantee high-end and cost-efficient solutions for the group’s global customers, reads the announcement of his nomination. He will manage control of the
airlines’ annual operational results and operational standards compliance, as well as network synergy under the strategic partnerships, and international team development.

Rough road ahead
Quite a multi-facetted job, though! This is all the more remarkable since times get rougher for the cargo industry with Brexit just around the corner, the escalating trade war launched by Trump,
levying punitive tariffs on products made in China, Europe, Mexico and Canada and liberalism on the retreat in a growing number of countries, impeding global exchange of goods.
Challenges wherever one looks. At Volga-Dnepr they trust Mr Ogiermann to navigate the group through tough times by defining a clear roadmap. “We are delighted that Ulrich has joined our
international team and believe his knowledge and experience will bring synergies within our network of airlines to new levels,” said Alexey Isaykin, President of Volga-Dnepr Group.
The 58-year old manager will be based in London from where he will perform his many duties.
In other Volga-Dnepr news it was revealed by the company that they recently flew the world’s largest and newest aircraft engine from Victorville, California where it was under testing, back to
the General Electric’s Test Operations facility in Ohio. The GE9X engine will be used to power the new generation of long-haul airlines coming on the market. V-D used one of their mighty Antonov
AN-124 aircraft for the operation.
