On Tuesday, 5 March, the official opening of “Schiphol Animal Centre” took place.
Around 145 guests witnessed the revelation of the name of the facility, which is located on the premises of handling company Aviapartner at Schiphol Airport.
Independent, highly qualified and fully certified
Schiphol Animal Centre is an independent inspection point for horses at Schiphol Airport. The highly qualified staff members (including an in-house veterinarian) take care of a smooth handling and VIP treatment of import horses entering the EU. Opening hours are 24/7 and all activities undertaken are Border Inspection Post Amsterdam Airport certified by 90/426/EEC. Schiphol Animal Centre provides full handling of documentation for the NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) and Customs.
State of the art stables and ramps
Schiphol Animal Centre has 24 spacious stables in 4 separate units. There is full supervision of both the inspection point and the stables with 24 cameras in total. Horses are unloaded from the stalls with ramps that are developed with and for Schiphol Animal Centre. These ramps make sure that the horses can leave the stalls in a comfortable and safe way.
Wellbeing of horses
“It is our mission to handle horses in the most comfortable, fast and safe way, from aircraft to Schiphol Animal Centre stables. The wellbeing of the horses is the starting point for all of our activities”, says Mr Edwin Hofstede, Director of Schiphol Animal Centre.
Schiphol Animal Centre is a joint venture between ECS, specialist on horse transportation by air and Aviapartner, handling company at Schiphol Airport.
