As a recognised thought-leader in air cargo, Schiphol Cargo has been given the opportunity of staging a one-hour session within the Air Cargo Africa conference programme, on Wednesday February 20 from 14:00-15:00.

The session will feature speakers from the entire supply chain and governmental bodies, such as the Netherlands African Business Council (NABC), South-African Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (SANEC), Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, Nairobi-based perishables forwarder Total Touch Cargo, FlowerWatch, perishables trucking company Van Swieten Cargo and BAMA, Norway’s leading supplier of fruit and vegetables. The session will be moderated by Schiphol’s  Senior VP Enno Osinga.

Under the heading “Perfecting the Africa-Europe Supply chain: what the experts say”, the session will reflect Africa’s huge importance in the production and export of flowers, fruit and vegetables. An initial video presentation will be given by cool chain engineers Flowerwatch, showing the dramatic difference in vase lives of cut flowers which have been correctly and incorrectly shipped.

Follow-on topics will include:
• Changes in the cut flowers sector, and how the air cargo industry can adapt to retain and develop its business
• Supply chain skills in emerging markets
• Supply chain opportunities in landlocked countries
• Is African air cargo ready for 100% screening?

Air Cargo Africa introduction

Being the second event of its kind (the first took place in Nairobi in 2011), Air Cargo Africa is fast establishing itself as the meeting place between Africa’s shippers, forwarders and airlines, and their peers from around the world.

The Nairobi show drew freight and logistics professionals from all over Africa and the world, and was universally acclaimed as the promising start of what would become one of the key events in the industry calendar. Now being held in Johannesburg, with its easier global transport links and better facilities, Air Cargo Africa is set to build on the success of its first show.

The event is once again being organised by STAT Times – one of India’s leading freight publishers, organiser of the well-established Air Cargo India exhibition and conference, publisher of the recently-launched Update Africa magazine, and co-organiser of Air Cargo Asia which will take place in Singapore later in 2013.

What’s so special about Africa?

Now inward investment from countries such as China is really beginning to make an impact: infrastructure is improving, business skills are developing, and African countries are starting to appreciate their own huge potential on the world stage. Africa is set to take off.

New technology and working practices are enabling African producers in the perishables sector to consider more distant overseas markets, with the realistic prospect of delivering their products in better and  more valuable condition. With greater interest and collaboration from foreign logistics experts, the aspirations of producers will become reality . . . and the air cargo industry will win valuable new business.

Schiphol Cargo is using Air Cargo Africa as an opportunity to unite African producers and their agents with the logistics community of Schiphol.

The Schiphol pavilion

The Schiphol Pavilion will provide dedicated space for our selected cargo business partners to market their services and display their own promotional material within the larger Schiphol stand.

This collective approach has proven to be very successful and will provide the African market with a compelling vision of Schiphol as the ideal gateway into Europe.

Next opportunity: Air Cargo Europe in Munich
If you want to be a part of a strong, recognisable representation of the Schiphol Cargo community, your next opportunity to participate in the Schiphol pavilion is the Air Cargo Europe exhibition in Munich (4-7 June). The entire industry is already looking forward to The world´s largest trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management. In 2011, 51.310 trade visitors from 137 countries came to the exhibition.

1893 exhibitors from 59 countries took part in transport logistic and the integrated Air Cargo Europe. Together these exhibitors covered the entire spectrum of global, intermodal movement of goods on in the air, on roads, rail, and water.

With a surface area of 128m2 the Schiphol Pavilion offers space for six business partners. By sharing the costs of booth design, construction, catering and other facilities this will offer you a highly cost-efficient way of participating in the exhibition.
