Port of Melbourne $300m ‘rail solution’ would restrict competition, claim shippers

Shippers in Australia have criticised Port of Melbourne’s plans to create intermodal links connecting its box terminals to the Victoria hinterland.
Melbourne’s proposed Port Rail Solution (PRS) would see the port authority take back land currently leased to two container terminals in the Swanson Dock area, DP World and Patrick, and create a new rail facility – effectively giving the terminals on-dock rail capability.
