Singapore has made its largest-ever seizure of smuggled ivory, impounding a haul of nearly nine tonnes of tusks from an estimated 300 elephants, authorities said yesterday. The illegal cargo, discovered in a container from the Democratic Republic of the Congo being shipped to Vietnam, also included around 12 tonnes of pangolin scales — the third such seizure in as many months. The haul is said to be worth around £39m ($48.6m).
