Saudia Cargo obtains EU GDP

The Saudi Arabian freight carrier has received the certificate of European Union Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP) for transporting and handling temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals.
The authentication was issued by Geneva, Switzerland-based verification company SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance).

Festive mood at Jeddah, Saudia Cargo’s headquarters. The certificate marks a new achievement for Saudia Cargo and a recognition of the carrier’s high-quality storing and transporting services of
pharmaceuticals and medical cargos, reads a press release. It further says that the airline has fulfilled and met all international requirements for the certificate.

Complying with international quality standards
Abdulrahman Al-Mubarak, Chief Commercial Officer, Saudia Cargo commented: “This certificate recognizes that
Saudia Cargo maintains and complies with the quality management standards throughout the supply chain and applies efficient procedures and policies for receiving and handling pharmaceuticals
& medical products without any risks.”

 
Prior to receiving the coveted distinction, the carrier has enhanced the quality of warehouses where medical products are handled and stored. This was done by providing the
ground facilities with state-of-the-art equipment and devices to control temperature, which is the most important factor in the logistics services related to medical products and pharmaceuticals.
Simultaneously, Saudia Cargo points out that the carrier has qualified its staff to efficiently handle temperature sensitive pharmaceutical shipments.

Cool storage facilities
The facilities conform to the international standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use as well as the local standards of the
Saudi Food and Drug Authority. The facilities also ensure different temperatures and accommodate pharmaceutical companies’ containers, which require advanced technology solutions.
The launch of a program for building cold storage facilities at various airports served by the carrier for accommodating and processing pharmaceuticals & medicines according to high EU GDP
standards was announced earlier by the management. It is a prerequisite to be awarded the EU GDP certificate.
Certifier SGS is considered as being the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. Based in Geneva, it operates a network of over 2,600 offices and laboratories
around the world.

WFS gets GDP certification for two pharma centers in South Africa
In a similar development, ground handling agent Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has been awarded Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification for its temperature-controlled Johannesburg and
Cape Town pharma facilities. The decision follows latest investments to upgrade pharma handling and a 15 percent increase in these product volumes over the past two years. In a statement WFS says
that the GDP certification supports the ground handler’s continued commitment to help growing their airline customer’s pharma products.
